Hi, I’m Diane Hamill, the owner and designer at DianeHamillFiberArt. I grew up in Oklahoma. I am a descendant of pioneers who made the land runs into Oklahoma Territory and patriots who fought in the American Revolution. I have two grown children and seven grandchildren. My husband practiced medicine for many years and now works as the medical director of a non-profit hospice.

I have loved fiber arts since I was a child. One of my earliest memories is of playing under my grandmother’s quilting frame. My maternal grandmother and my mother taught me to sew, embroider, knit, quilt, needlepoint, and crochet.

I begin making wool and cashmere blankets after seeing some on social media. I was fascinated with the possibility of taking something that had been used up and giving it new purpose.

I came to weaving later in life and found another passion. After taking weaving lessons, I decided I enjoyed the process enough to invest in a loom and make a space for it in my home. I love turning yarn into fabric! Watching the yardage grown beneath my hands is exciting and turning that fabric into a finished product is thrilling. I enjoy combining different techniques in pieces, such as woven towel with a knitted dishcloth or knitted sleeves on a woven garment.

I have come to appreciate the meditative quality of weaving and knitting.  The repetition is soothing to the mind and soul. 

Handmade items are a wonderful way of expressing your individuality. Few things in this fast-paced world reflect the time and thoughtfulness put into making and selecting a handmade gift. Giving someone you love a specially selected gift reflects the effort taken by the gift giver to find a unique piece of wearable art.

My products are not mass produced. There will never be hundreds of the same piece woven by me. My cashmere and wool creations are unique. I am a one-person shop. I’m the owner, curator, creator, weaver, seamstress, hand-finisher, photographer, packer, and shipper. Sharing my pieces with others brings me satisfaction. My creations are made with care and attention to detail.
